Pocket Notes

The Pocket Notes app provides course notes for the GCSE Chemistry, Physics & Biology courses.

The Chemistry material covers Structure & Bonding, basic organic Chemistry and Acids, Alkalis & Salts (among others). This is similar to the National 5 topics Atomic structure & Bonding, Acids & Bases.

The notes are scanned in copies of neatly handwritten notes and are written in colour. This might make it hard to read in certain areas (and doesn’t give the app the highest production value) as opposed to type up notes but the colours certainly make them more attractive & pleasing to look at which can help with exam revision. It gets the job done.

As the notes are for the GCSE curriculum the exact topics might not match the National 5 curriculum. However, the level of complexity of the material covered is on par with the N5 and the majority of it will be relevant to a N5 pupil.

This app does not cover any of the Higher or Advanced Higher course material and so those pupils should look towards other revision apps (such as Khan Academy).
The app operates reasonably well with easy to navigate menus and the ability to zoom in & out of the notes. Overall, the app may prove useful to National 5 Chemistry students (and other science students for those willing to pay the £5.98 to access the full Physics & Biology notes) in their exam revision.
